Cusin & Monasterio Hacienda
This idyllic and luxurious retreat offers a real escape from urban life. Hacienda Cusin is a restored 17th century Andean estate 20 minutes south from the famous market town of Otavalo. Its terracotta roofs, winding cobblestone paths and courtyards nestle within acres of lush and lovingly tended perennial gardens. El Monasterio de Cusin, with its high buttressed walls, towers, garden and fountain courtyards, can be reached just by wandering through the gardens. All the individually styled guestrooms, suites and garden cottages wonderful garden views and most have log-burning fires, beamed ceilings and beautiful locally crafted furnishings. The public areas are antique furnished and have log-burning fires, including the library where tea is served all day. Bellavista Cloud Forest Reserve
One of the first 12 officially certified ecotourism projects in Ecuador, the Bellavista Cloud Forest Reserve is situated high up in the dense cloud forest, surrounded by plunging valleys and tall trees festooned with orchids and bromeliads. A true wilderness retreat offering a warm welcome, the various lodging options allow you to get up close to the pristine cloud forest and its animals and birds in comfort and peace. The Reserve offers airy and stylish lodging made of natural materials in the Geodesic Dome, the Trailhead House, the Bamboo House or the House in the Woods. There are also camping options and a hostel for the budget-minded. Other facilities include good quality food and wine served, plus a great variety of activities around the area.
Septimo Paraiso
Hosteria Septimo Paraiso is located 2 km from the village of Mindo in lush cloud forest. The Hosteria has 22 luxurious rooms with private bathroom supplied with hot water from its own spring, each individually decorated in hardwood in a traditional rustic style. There are two buildings which cater for different budgets without compromising the first class quality. Other facilities include an elegant bar/restaurant serving local and international dishes and a bar with pool table, table football and darts, a lovely heated pool and Jacuzzi with solarium, and a gym. Pinsaqui Hacienda
A splendid old property in the heart of Ecuador's lake district, Hacienda PinsaquÍ's history stretches back over three centuries. Constructed in 1790, Hacienda Pinsaqui was originally a colonial textile enterprise, employing over one thousand weavers and spinners . Ideally situated at the base of Imbabura Volcano, just north of the world-famous Otavalo market, its location also allows effortless access to the region's many attractions. Climate
There are no absolute rules in this equatorial climate - it is mostly warm, except in the highlands, and divided into wet and dry periods which vary by area. The weather is spring-like most of the year in Quito and the central highlands. The highlandsê dry season (the best time for hiking and climbing) is June to September. The Amazon region is wet and hot all year round, but especially from June to September.
