Camaguey's most classic hotel was built in an 18th century mansion style in 1939 and retains an old-world, exclusive feel. Elegant in the colonial style, the three star hotel is tucked away within the labyrinthine streets of the old town and is walking distance from many of the city's cultural sites. The intimate and well appointed rooms have air-conditioning, private bathrooms, cable TV and radio. The clubby feel of the hotel is accentuated by the abundance of bars - no less than four, including the Piano Bar which serves some of the best cocktails in Camaguey, and the palm shaded rooftop bar. Villa Maria La Gorda has a stunning location on an expanse of white sand and glass-clear water on the Bay of Corrientes. There are 40 simple but comfortable units with air-conditioning, TV, minibar and private bathrooms, all opening out onto the lovely beach. The hotel restaurant is very good and specializes in preparing fresh fish. The hotel is especially attractive for keen divers, with spectacular coral reef dive sites situated just twenty metres from the dive centre attached to the hotel. There is also a bar and gift shop.

This is one of Cuba's showcase hotels, uniquely designed to blend in with the glorious surroundings in the mountains behind Las Tererazas. The hotel opened in 1994 and is a stunning modern interpretation of colonial architecture. Each stylish bedroom has a floor to ceiling glass window and French doors leading onto a balcony with lake views and a romantic bathroom overlooking the wilderness. The magnificent lobby features a lime tree whose branches disappear through the skylight. Cayo Levisa

Hotel Cayo Levisa offers charming sea-side bungalows on an idyllic tropical island. Individual bungalows are built in two rows parallel to the shore and staggered so that each get an ocean view. Climate
The tropical climate means that you can enjoy Cuba most of the year around. The hot, rainy season runs from May to October but winter (December to April) is the island's peak tourist season.
Cubans take their holidays in July and August, so this is the time to mingle with the locals on their beaches.
Fiesta and celebration periods are during Christmas, Easter and the period around 26 July, when Cubans celebrate the anniversary of the revolution.
